How do I split an audio file into parts?
Updated:
Open the Audio Splitter, drop the file and choose Equal parts or Maximum length. Check the markers on the waveform and press Split audio, then download the parts one by one or all at once as a ZIP.
What are the steps?
- Open the Audio Splitter and drop an MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG or AAC file.
- Choose Equal parts and set the number, or Maximum length and set the seconds per part.
- Check the markers on the waveform.
- Keep the source format for a lossless split and press Split audio.
- Download each part, or all of them as a ZIP.
Does splitting reduce quality?
Not for MP3, WAV or M4A (AAC) when you keep the source format: the parts are cut from the original data without re-encoding. Other formats, or a different output format, are re-encoded.
Why are MP3 split points shifted slightly?
MP3 audio is stored in frames of about 26 milliseconds. To avoid re-encoding, each cut is placed on the nearest frame boundary.
How do I split an audiobook or podcast into chapters of equal length?
Choose Maximum length and enter the length you want, for example 600 seconds for 10-minute parts. The last part holds whatever is left.
Can I split audio on my phone?
Yes. The Audio Splitter works in Safari and Chrome on phones. Download the ZIP, or each part separately if your phone does not open ZIP files.
How do I cut out just one part instead?
Use the Audio Trimmer: drag the handles around the part you want and save only that.
